Introduction

Welcome to the Lindbergh vs. Earhart weblog. This weblog is designed to draw in assorted comments, information, analysis, and data relating to a simple focus question:

Is Charles Lindbergh OR Amelia Earhart MORE deserving of the title "HERO"?

This weblog (or "blog" for short) is designed to be your personal place to assimilate your thoughts and argue, with data, your points. All arguments and opinions will be accessible to not only myself and your peers but also to others around the world who might pop in and comment. This is designed to allow you, in a few (or more) paragraphs , to show your talents as a critical-thinking and insightful historian. Do your best and learn from others as well.

For additional extra credit, respond to the postings of others with THOUGHTFUL analysis of their comments. Also be sure when you have finally decided (and that may be in a few weeks when you can read what others wrote) to cast your vote.

Some safety tips to remember:

• Use only first names, first names and last initials, just initials, or a pseudonyme.
• Never publish personal identifiers about yourself or others.
• Do not post personal information, personal pictures, or inappropriate material.
• Any problems in your blogs , whether technical or content related, should be communicated to your teacher(s) immediately.
• Follow all school policies regarding behavior, language and appropriateness at all times.

The task is now before you as a historical learning community. You have accumulated data, analyzed thoughts on their contributions, their character, their legacies. In a concise and logical few paragraphs, argue your case (using facts) here for all to see.

Once you have posted, take a break for a day or so but within a few days, return and reply to AT LEAST 3 of the responses (with details and thoughtful analysis) further supporting or refuting their arguments. Feel free to have more responses!

Secondly, you NEED to "keep up" with the "comments" (replies/responses) made to YOUR original comment. By the time this year is over, a great many well-documented opinions should be here to examine and digest. As you respond to comments made to your ideas, use evidence and logic, not emotion or illogic, to support what you believe.

Comments and responses NEED to be in-depth and not simply wasted space. The more thought and analysis you put in, the more credit you will gain. We will be learning as we go so have fun and express your "expert" opinions.

Is Charles Lindbergh or Amelia Earhart MORE deserving of the title "Hero"? Why?

Some Issues to Consider:

• What is a Hero?
• What characteristics did the individuals display?
• What personal characteristics did the individuals have?
• What impact did the individuals have on society?
• What impact did society have on the individuals?
• What is their legacy?
• What is real and what is perceived?

Enjoy and support what you say with facts and analysis. AVOID "I feel", "I believe", and such statements as they are redundant.

Lastly, Remember to not include your last name in any post. Be considerate of others, follow all school rules of appropriate behavior, and seek to learn more from others (particularly those with whom you do not agree).
